Unfortunately not everything is cool about SVG.

This is a great format for designing logos, banners and whatever media has to be scaled of modified in vector mode. SVG is an excellent format for creating graphics that can be scaled to any size without loosing quality. SVG is expanding fast and will be a very common format that will be used in the near future in a lot of applications, on-line media and portable devices. This means that a drawing saved in a version of SVG will most probably be visible in other versions.

For the sake of completeness, I should also say that XML is an open standard for describing a document. It is a language for describing two dimensional graphics in XML. Let's start with what is SVG, because this is why we should use Inkscape. For this task I had to choose from a variety of software and the winner was Inkscape, because my guess is this one is the best in open source. I have pretty good knowledge of photo-editing but this is a different thing so I guess I had to start from scrap. Actually I'm a newbie regarding vector graphics so maybe this is another part of the problem. Perhaps the reason is that I was afraid of it, because I'm not much of an artist. I've known about Inkscape for some time now, but for a reason I can't figure out I haven't used it.
